Stavros' Access Awards

Every year, we send Access Award nomination forms to all of our consumers so they can tell us who in their community has improved access for people with disabilities. Then Stavros staff and volunteers visit each nominated site with a access checklist. Nominees win either a Paul Winske Award, a Ted Martineau Award, or a Home Sweet Home Heroes Award.

Paul Winske Award

A Paul Winske Award is given to business, organizations or individuals who have taken new or innovative steps to improve access. Paul Winske was an advocate at Stavros who worked hard to make communities in the Pioneer Valley more accessible. He founded the first "handicapped parking" patrol in western Massachusetts and was the driving force in establishing annual awards for businesses that made themselves more accessible. He is sorely missed by his co-workers. Click here for 2006 Winske winners or 2007 Winske winners or 2008 Winske winners.

Ted Martineau Award

A Ted Martineau Award is given to individuals with disabilities who have improved services, access, and opportunities in their communities. Ted Martineau was the Stavros president from 1976 to 1997. As a volunteer, he dedicated his life to fighting for independence and employment opportunities for persons with disabilities, for better access in the community, and better home and health care for elders. Home Sweet Home Heroes

The 2006 Home Sweet Home Heroes Award goes to volunteers and contractors who have gone above and beyond in getting ramps built. Click here 2007 Home Sweet Home Heroes Award for the 2007 winners or 2008 Home Sweet Home Heroes Award for the 2008 winners.
