Western Massachusetts Hospital Access Project
People with disabilities are denied effective medical care when hospitals, clinics and doctor's ofices are not fully accessible. This includes physical access, communication access, and equipment access. Stavros staff and consumers have been aware of barriers to health care access for a long time--and now we have some help!
The Massachusetts Disability Law Center is conducting outreach to all four Western Massachusetts counties (Berkshire, Franklin, Hampshire, and Hampden) regarding the right to equal access to medical care in hospitals. DLC will provide training to consumers and hospitals regarding the right to request reasonable accommodations and the responsibility to provide accessible medical services. DLC will investigate claims regarding Western Massachusetts hospitals and will work with hospitals to develop remedial action plans.
