Looking for, acquiring, and keeping accessible, affordable housing is always difficult. The links below are to websites that we have found useful for people looking for housing or for help resolving a housing issue. Each link is followed by a brief description of the mission or type of info you can find on the website.
The Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development provides contact info for all housing authorities in Massachusetts, plus comprehensive info on how to obtain housing in Massachusetts and on housing programs and the numerous agencies and organizations that provide lower cost, subsidized housing for those who cannot afford market rate rents or home prices.
The Mass Accessible Housing Registry is a free program that helps people with disabilities find rental housing in Massachusetts, primarily accessible and barrier-free housing. The database tracks accessible and affordable apartments throughout the state, maintaining information about their availability.
The Citizen's Housing and Planning Association is the non-profit umbrella organization for affordable housing and community development activities throughout Massachusetts.
HAP began providing housing assistance to the people of Hampden and Hampshire Counties in 1973. Originally established to provide innovative forms of assistance to families seeking to rent decent, safe housing, HAP has come to provide a wide range of services to tenants, homebuyers, homeowners, and rental property owners. that helps people with disabilities find rental housing in Massachusetts.
The Housing Discrimination Project in Holyoke can sometimes provide legal assistance for people facing housing discrimination in Massachusetts.
The Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development offers programs, housing and funding to communities to serve those with low to moderate incomes.
From the CHAPA website, this is a list of housing authorities that indicated in a recent CHAPA survey that they are implementing a Section 8 Homeownership Program. These agencies are in varying stages of implementing a program. Please contact them directly for more information. Additional housing authorities may also be participating.
