Personal Assistance Services/PCA

Stavros' Personal Assistance Services (PAS) program is often also referred to as the Personal Care Attendant (PCA) program. The PAS/PCA Program enables people with long term disabilities to live at home rather than in a nursing facility by providing the funds to hire attendant(s) who help with daily living activities like getting out of bed, taking medication, personal grooming and housekeeping. This program is funded by the Division of Medical Assistance and all PCA consumers must be Mass Health Standard members. PCAs work for the consumer, not for Stavros; Stavros Fiscal Intermediary processes the payroll only.

PCA Frequently Asked Questions

Stavros' nurses and occupational therapists visit and evaluate each consumer in their own home (individuals wishing to transfer from institutional or nursing home care may wish to contact us and request assistance from an advocate if help is required.) Typical length of process from your request to a decision by DMA is about 6 to 8 weeks. This is not an emergency or acute care program! For these, contact Home Care and Visiting Nurses agencies--you can find them using the .pdf document below.

Massachusetts PCA Directory

The task of finding and hiring a personal care assistant (PCA) is now easier for MassHealth eligible elders and people with disabilities, thanks to a new contract between the Massachusetts PCA Workforce Council and Rewarding Work Resources, Inc, a nonprofit company located in Dedham, Mass. Here is a list of people in Massachusetts who are ready to provide personal care assistant (PCA) services in your home.

PCA Forever

PCAForever.org provides vital information on the Massachusetts Personal Care Attendant program. PCA user, PCAs, advocates and provider agencies are welcome to submit comments, articles, videos, and other media that speak to the program's crucial role as a consumer-directed service that ensures and enhances the independence and dignity of nearly 20,000 people with disabilities of all ages across the state.

Home Care/Skilled Nursing Services

When individuals are approved for the PCA program by DMA, Stavros' skills trainers schedule visits to train new consumers how to manage their program. Trainers maintain this relationship and periodically measure how well the program goals and consumer needs are meshing. Adjustments are made as needed. Some individuals need additional assistance to manage their program effectively. They can receive additional assistance from a surrogate.
