PCA Quality Workforce Council
In Massachusetts, there are over 20,000 Personal Care Attendees (PCAs) that care for approximately 13,000 people statewide. Currently there is a new organization called The Personal Care Attendant Quality Workforce Council, which aims to help consumers who supervise their own PCAs to access good care by creating a more stable PCA workforce.
With that goal in mind, this Massachusetts Workforce Council is negotiating with the newly formed PCA union SEIU1199 UNITED HEALTHCARE WORKERS EAST to set new wages and benefits. The Council is also responsible to establish a PCA directory, to help consumers find qualified help, and provide training. The council is made up of consumers using the PCA program, state officials, and is chaired by Assistant Secretary of Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS) Dr. Jean McGuire. Working together, this council hopes to reach new heights for the PCA community.
