Honoring MLK’s Legacy

This Monday, the nation pays tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr., whose words and actions helped build a more equitable and inclusive America and achieve passage of the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964. Later, America’s disability rights leaders took inspiration from King as they worked to pass another landmark civil rights law, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. Today, the ADA prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities across community life, including employment. It also provides the foundation for ODEP’s work. Through policy development, outreach and education, and technical assistance, ODEP assists both workers with disabilities and employers in understanding their rights and responsibilities under the law.*
