2010 Paralympic Winter Games

The 2010 Paralympic Winter Games, held in Vancouver March 12-21, will feature the top U.S. athletes taking on the world's best in alpine skiing, cross country skiing, biathlon, wheelchair curling and sled hockey. Check it out here.

5 College Outdoor Festival!

The 5 College Outdoor Festival is benefiting All Out Adventures this year! And it all kicks off with keynote speaker, Trish Downing. Trish Downing was hit by a car while training as a competitive cyclist in September, 2000. Now a competitive wheelchair athlete, she is the only female wheelchair racer to have completed the Iron Man Triathlon. Come hear her story at this FREE event at Amherst College!

Accessible Winter Fun!

Winter recreation is accessible for people with disabilities, friends and families by the use of adaptive equipment, supportive techniques and assistance as needed. Equipment, instruction and support provided at no charge. Join us around the campfire for cocoa and cooking. There is also a warming hut! Activities will include: Cross-Country Ski, Kick-sled, Snowshoe, Hiking, Nature Activities, and Letter-boxing. New: Animal Tracking. March 1st from 11:00AM - 3:00PM at the DAR State Forest. Stavros is Seeking Volunteers!

2010 marks the 20th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Brainstorming ideas for an event that would both celebrate the Act and educate the public. If you are interested in helping, please contact Janet Shaw @ ext 232 or jshaw@stavros.org.

Come check out the Accessible Winter Open House!

The Department of Conservation and Recreation's (DCR) Universal Access Program (UAP) will offer a free fun-filled day of celebrating the winter and adaptive outdoor recreation available for individuals, families and friends of people with disabilities. Activities will include, cross-country skiing, sit skiing, snowshoeing, kicksledding, ice skating, letterboxing and a campfire/interpretive program. Bring your own ice skates if you have them; sit- sleds will be provided. Hot chili, hot cocoa and cookies will be served. Join us on Saturday, February 6 at Mt. Tom Reservation from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mt. Tom is located off Rt. 5 on 125 Reservation Rd. in Holyoke.

Stavros' Funding Workshops

Learn about funding options and resources for home or vehicle modifications at our monthly funding workshops. These workshops are free and are held on the first Tuesday of the month in our Springfield office at 262 Cottage Street. They last about two hours.

Stavros' Housing Workshops

Stavros usually holds a workshop once a month to help consumers find adequate and accessible housing, alternating between our Springfield office (262 Cottage Street) and our Amherst office (210 Old Farm Rd). The trainings are all on Thursdays from 1:00 pm until 3 pm.
