High rents outpace federal disability payments, leaving many homeless

High rents outpace federal disability payments, leaving many homeless.

Social Security Income (SSI) doesn’t pay the rent. Recently an acquaintance of mine told me he has a tenant that cannot move from her apartment because she does not have enough money to pay first month, last month, as security payments despite her having a Section 8. Most people who are looking for subsidized apartment rely on Social Security Income. It’s not unusual for people on SSI are unable to find apartments, because there SSI payments do not amount to the fair market rate they can receive from their Local Housing Authority. The fair market rent is the amount a Section 8 housing authority will pay for rent.
